Make putting practice fun

Improve your ability to control your speed on longer putts. Taking the time to practice developing that skill will pay off with lower scores on your scorecard (and less frustration on the green).

“Compete to win. Practice with a partner.”

Jennifer Bermingham, Head of Coaching Programs, Invited Clubs

“Set up 3 stations on the putting green. One at 15 feet from the hole, another at 25 feet, and a third at 35 feet. From each station, you take 3 putts at the hole. Starting at 15 feet, you score 1 point for every ball that finishes level with, or less than 3 feet beyond the hole. From this station, you score nothing for anything that is short of the hole or further than 3 feet past.”

“From 25 feet you score 2 points for every ball that finishes level with, or up to 3 feet past the hole. You score 1 point for anything that is short by no more than 3 feet. More than 3 feet short or long and you score 0 points. It’s the same from 35 feet. How long does it take you to score the perfect 15?”

“Many less experienced golfers or those shooting more than 95 seem to struggle to calibrate their stroke length with the distance of the putt they’re about to hit. If that’s you then go and see your coach. They’ll have a method to help.”

Invest in ‘fun’ practice

We expect to see a few groups out competing on the putting green in the coming weeks. It’s social, fun, and will lower your scores on the course.

If you’re one of the golfers struggling to match stroke length to the distance of the putt you’re hitting that Jennifer talks about above, then don’t wait.
